Since 1989 Aviation Education and Training Region Aviation II Palembang, Air Transportation organizes education and short courses such as Aviation Security Training and Radio Engineering Basic Education. Aviation Education and Training Region Aviation II Palembang will be the forerunner of the Palembang Aviation training center, that is one of 5 (five) Aviation Training Centers throughout Indonesia spread over the areas of Medan, Palembang, Surabaya, Makassar, and Jayapura whose existence has been determined based on the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number KM.22. the year 1989.
In October 2002, The Organizational Structure and Work Procedure of the Palembang Aviation Training Center underwent a change, which was based on the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number KM.78 the year 2002, October 02, 2002. Then change again through the Minister of Transportation Regulation number PM. 18 The year 2014 concerning Organization and Administration of Aviation Education and Training Centers. In 2019, the Palembang Aviation Training Center has changed its institution to the Palembang Aviation Polytechnic according to PM. 24 The year 2019 about the Organization and Work Procedure of the Palembang Aviation Polytechnic with 3 (three) study programs That is Aviation Fire and Rescue Diploma III study program (PPKP), Airport Management Diploma III Study Program (MBU), and Airport Engineering Technology (TRBU) Diploma IV Study Program. Picture 1.1. shows the history of the development of the Palembang Aviation Training Center to become the Palembang Aviation Polytechnic.
As one of the Technical Implementation Units (UPT) within the Education and Training Agency which has now changed its name to the Transportation Human Resources Development Agency. Administratively the Palembang Aviation Polytechnic is fostered by the Secretariat of the Transportation Human Resources Development Agency while technically the operation is fostered by the Head of the Center for Civil Aviation Human Resources Development. Since 2014, Palembang Aviation Polytechnic has received ISO 9001: 2008 certification from the British Standard Institute for training institutions, and currently, the certification has been renewed to ISO 9001: 2015.
Vision
The vision of the Palembang Aviation Polytechnic as contained in the statute, namely “In 2035 it will become a Vocational Education Institution in the Aviation Sector that Produces Competent, Prime, Professional and Ethical Graduates in Accordance with National and International Standards”. The formulation of the vision reflects the indicators of the graduates who want to be produced, namely as follows:

To become a cadet at the Palembang Aviation Polytechnic through a series of selections including health and physical test. next, when in the dormitory, cadets are trained periodically and at the end of each semester the cadets and in each final semester cadets take the physical test. This is done for health and the physicality of the cadets is still prime.
Professional
These keywords reflect that the Palembang Aviation Polytechnic graduates have proficiency in their field of expertise which is stated in the form of a license. all graduates in addition to getting a diploma and certificate of competence will get a license issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, in which to get the graduates must take a proficiency test.
Ethical
These keywords reflect that Palembang Aviation Polytechnic graduates have ethics in accordance with the norms regulated in the rules of conduct for cadets. while living in the dormitory cadet’s caregivers will supervise the activities of cadets and provide awards for achievements in the academic and non-academic, as well as sanctions for violations. Violations committed by cadets are classified into mild, moderate, and heavy, and sanctions will be imposed in accordance with what is done. The heaviest sanction is that cadets can be expelled (drop out) from education. This award and sanction assessment will be summarized at the end of each semester into a conduit, this is done to produce ethical graduates.
